Don’t let the key chain fool you, we can’t get to Venice in this….
But, we finally made it on the road on our first trip in our slightly used pull behind camper! After searching for something affordable, comfortable and functional that we could do a few updates on, we are very pleased with our choice!

First order of business: Thorough cleaning, removing window treatments, fresh paint throughout, cleaning blinds, new upholstery & linens, replace front steps, queen-size mattress and items that are broken, and finally adding mirrors, towel bars and hooks.
First stop: 30-A!
This stretch of beach is difficult to access, we made the trek on foot. It is worth the trip for the view during January in FL, there are no facilities. Other nearby beaches are family friendly with all the amenities.
Saturday of the 30-A Songwriters Festival! We love this event, hearing the writers explain what inspires their songs and the process they go through weekly, scheduled meetings with other writers to hammer out song details. Some artists are singer-songwriters and others are writers…but artists all perform their own music here!
Highlight of the weekend when my own “Piano Man” purchased the first CD from a female artist that I fell in love with – Adron! ~Next Dr. John at Grand Boulevard! ~
Left: Amy LeVere, Right: Shawn Mullins
Female songwriters explain humorous specific details regarding their own inspirations. On Saturday, Shawn Mullins also was very animated about his inspirational moments. He played his big hit “Lullaby” and it was great to have that moment watching as my favorite line from the song filled the air, explaining LA with the words: “It’s kind of like Nashville with a tan!” – This is one day for the books!
So what do you do when you have a day this memorable…Have a night cap with your best friend of course! #moscowmule #thecraftbar
Next up…Sunday morning at Hibiscus Cafe!
Sunday morning at Hibiscus cafe….what a treat! ~Me with Sarah Lee Guthrie~
#marybragg #ediecarey #sarahleeguthie #garylouri
Performing in the appropriately titled “Backyard of Love,” Sunday morning we heard Edie Carey’s story. She and her husband became parents after working through infertility issues. She sang lullabies she wrote during that difficult time.
Humorously, Mary Bragg explained the fun involved as an amazing piece came to her and another writer easily one time when they penned the song: “Ice Cream & Whiskey” and so they sang…”You bring the sugar and I’ll bring the shot…”
When you feel 16 years old again …it’s all good! Being an Arlo Guthrie fan, as far back as I can remember, I was thrilled to hear his youngest daughter Sarah Lee Guthrie and her beautiful voice. I loved her stories of childhood…that most of us can’t relate to and her relationship to numbers as an adult, that I totally get.
Waiting for John Prine to sing ~ Sunday Afternoon!
The day just got better hearing the 23 year old Parker Millsap & Shawn Colvin. Shawn told the story & sang one of her big hits, but she didn’t explain what I hoped she would…What is up with that murder song: “Sunny Came Home??” ( Grammy Award for Song and Album of the year: 1996)
The grand finale was John Prine, whose style is soulful songs and often in my opinion, with lessons woven in.
I love their process. It is the same with any art. I learned after a few art classes how artist see everything differently and view everything with the eyes of: “How would I paint that?”
Recently our son, a senior engineering student expressed that bridges are his favorite structure and with each sighting he thinks : “How would you build that?” ….products, numbers, stress factors, etc.
When songwriters are in a situation they “describe it with lyrics & notes” ~ such talent!
I don’t spend my life keeping up with every musical personality that I admire, but I really love this weekend… this year, out there getting caught up…chasing songwriters up & down these beautiful beach towns!
So long 30-A…til next time!
Our own room with a view!
