Well, I’ve been waiting for months to do this so here goes….
We all know the expression: “You can’t see the forest for the trees,” and we know the expression indicates deeper meaning than an observation about foliage. Relatively recently my husband, affectionately known by many as Pappy made the following comment:
” You can’t see the house for the tree.” After having the “okay” from the home owners association and realizing the tree was the cause of allergies several times a year we decided to remove the tree that we had planted ourselves. As planned we purchased a tree that we can maintain more easily and one that matches the scale of our house. However, this all happened over the course of three years. Living in a town of tree huggers and being tree lovers ourselves, the three of us had a difficult time deciding when to part with the tree that provided so much shade.
So the day did come and all went well…once the grass regains it’s color and the plants that have been hiding under that “big oak” adjust, all will be well. However, this experience made me start thinking about when we built this house and planted that tree. It also made me think how trees are so much like families with their roots & branches, and how they provide protection and comfort.
